How to Improve Your Golf Swing:
An Expert's Guide
Are you looking to improve your golf swing? You've come to the right place. Because at Yatta Golf, we're here to help you better your entire game from tee to green.
Often times, it can feel like a daunting task to evolve or change your swing (just ask the pros — even Tiger Woods has changed his swing upwards of five different times!). But in the end, if you apply the right principles, practices, and advice — your swing and scores will improve.
Just apply our five core golf swing tips, and you'll be on your way to birdie golf. It's simple! Keep reading to discover how to improve your swing without completely overhauling your mechanics and rhythm.Golf Swing Tip #1 — Choke Down on the Club
One of the quickest ways to gain more control over your swing is simply to choke down on your club handle. Essentially, this just means to hold the grip of your club more towards the shaft instead of higher up towards the tip.
How does this help? Well, in essence, when you choke down, you're shortening your club. And this allows you to play longer clubs for further distance — but with the ease and forgiveness of shorter irons.
Golf Swing Tip #2 — Keep Your Head Down
You've probably heard it a million times, but that's because it's true! Lifting your head means you've taken your eye off the ball. And when you lift your head, you're opening your swing and increasing your potential for duffs, worm burners, shanks, and slices. Here's why.
Simply put, when you lift your head, you no longer know where you're swinging. And you're also subconsciously lifting the rest of your body. Instead of staying low to the ground when making contact with the ball, your club will most likely hit your shot in any variety of directions.
You might top your shot (driving it into the ground). You might slice it into the tree line or rough. Or, even worse, you might lose your ball altogether.
So, the solution? Keep your head down! Say it daily and make it a habit for every swing.Golf Swing Tip #3 — Lower Your Hands
This tip is often overlooked but sure to make a big difference in your swing. Why? Because without even realizing it, you're probably lifting and tightening your hands and wrist before your backswing — especially if you're already frustrated with your game.
The antidote? Lower your hands and relax. Create a soft, wide-open Pacman shape with your hanging arms and club. As a result, this will lower your ball flight and subsequently reduce hang time while producing a straighter shot forward.
Just like your mom used to say: shoulders back! But who knew she was talking about golf when she harped on posture.
Golf Swing Tip #4 — Shoulders Back
As a matter of fact, with a few tweaks to your back alignment (don't hunch!) as well as a few quick modifications to your stance and ball placement between — your swing will improve in no time!
For instance, if your legs are too close together, you'll be off-balance. If the ball is too far forward in your stance, you'll be reaching too much. But stand strong, with a solid foundation, legs under shoulders, with the ball appropriately positioned according to the length of your club, and you'll do just fine.
