What Do Women Wear To Golf?
Municipal VS Private
Golf Course Dress Codes
What do women wear to golf? Depending on where you golf, womens golf apparel will vary. Let's take a look at the different courses, and attire to help you narrow down what is best.
What Do Women Wear to Golf at a Municipal Course?
Typically at municipal golf courses the dress code is less strict. The golf course may allow you to wear jeans and a T-Shirt. It will be beneficial to call the municipal golf course beforehand to double check the dress code standards. Most websites will also have a section that clarifies what their dress code is.
What Do Girls Wear Golfing at a Private/Semi Private Course or Resort?
Private, semi private, and resorts often have much stricter dress codes. Let's dive deeper into what attire is appropriate.
A woman may wear a blouse with sleeves, or a sleeveless blouse with a collar. The most popular type of shirt to wear is the polo-style shirt. They come in a wide variety of styles, v-necks, zip-tops and sleeve lengths. You’ll want to make sure your shirt fits properly, and that it is tucked into your pants.
It would not be appropriate to wear T-shirts, tub tops, halters, swimsuits, or tank tops to a private/semi private course or resort.
Sweaters and Jackets
Some golfers prefer to dress in layers. You may wear a vest or sweater over your golf polo, or you may have a buttoned down shirt, light jacket or wind shirt on the cool days.
You will want to avoid wearing denim jackets or sweatshirts because they will most likely be considered inappropriate for these types of courses.
Pants and Skirts
Slacks are a common choice of bottoms for the early spring. On warmer days, capris, crops or shorts (at knee length) are preferable. Skorts are also a great option on hot days. Make sure the pants aren’t too long or short so that you can play your best game.
Improper bottom apparel would be jeans, sun/tank dresses, athletic pants/shorts, sweats, shorty shorts and pajama bottoms.
Head coverings such as a cap or visor are permitted on the golf course. Other head coverings such as designer caps, straw and crocheted caps, or glitz hats are also fun options too. You can wear a watch, have simple jewelry, and wear sunglasses to protect yourself from UVA/UVB exposure. You may also wear a belt with your bottoms.
Socks and Shoes
Golf shoes with non metal spikes are what most golf courses require. It’s not appropriate to wear high heels, boots, street shoes, sandals, or flip flops. Find socks that wick moisture away and you’ll want your socks to match your pants/shorts. The length of your socks should be to your ankle.
As mentioned before, it will be beneficial to call the golf course you are attending beforehand to check the dress code.
Now go out there and find your style and have fun playing golf!
